A Wild Hair

You can almost guess what's going on here. Obviously I'm at the salon. Obviously, I'm getting my hair done. What's not obvious is what's going on under those foils. I got a sudden urge to do a little something fun. For years I had wanted to add a plum tint to my hair. But when I went looking for plum hair on the webs, I came across something I liked even more. Try not to laugh...purple stripes (or highlights).  So I went with it....

and my favorite hairstyle...

I gotta tell you though, when I asked for the purple highlights, my hair dresser kidded with me that it was a mid-life crisis. Now I've seen little old ladies with purple hair and I've seen young gals with purple hair. But where does that leave us gals in the middle?

Simple Lampshade

Looky-looky what I found at Hubby's storage...A dingy old lamp shade, dirty and yucky.

But it's a good thing I did find it because I needed a new lampshade for a nightstand lamp.
So the first thing I did was cut off the "fabric" which is actually a thin plastic sheet like the plastic tablecloths you get at the dollar store. So I cut it all off and had just the frame.

The material I chose to cover was easy to find. I have TONS of left over tulle from our wedding up in the attic. So I brought it  on down.
I cut the tulle into strips about 5 inches wide and 18 inches long.

Then all I did was tie each strip from bottom to top in a pretty random pattern.

When I was done covering the frame, I trimmed the top.

I attached a flower embellishment and it's done! You could add trim, a bow or anything else you like.

Love it!! Oh, I forgot to tell Daddy McD I was adding something cute to his side of the bed....

Birthday for one...

My precious little Pickles turned 10! TEN!! Ahhh the joys of having a preteen daughter. The clothes, the emotions, the constant chattering, the messy room, the parade of pop songs. She's a joy to me. I couldn't know that having a daughter could be so fun.!

She woke to a room filled with streamers and was tickled pink...and purple, blue, yellow and green!

So I must confess to being a bit overwhelmed. I'm a big believer in baby steps. The trick is not looking at the huge pile of things that must be done; only the next thing that must be done. My general to-do list for my house is about 20 items long. Many of those items, however, are made up of several small steps or items. Maybe doesn't sound like such a big deal to most. But to a procrastinating, flighty gal with a short attention span, it might be a bit daunting.

One thing I've got to get going is a chore list! It'll help me knock certain, well, chores out every week so I can get them out of the way quickly and get on with larger projects and shop keeping.

First fruits....

So my first day of unemployment looked like an episode of Hoarders. A scary and tightly packed mess in various corners of the house is what I inherited from my working self. BUT I dove in and started clearing out a little at a time.

Witness the the kitchen catch-all, a shelved cabinet that wound up somehow in the kitchen and begun collecting and untold number of whatchamacallits. School papers, tax receipts, crayons, office supplies, surplus school supplies and much more.

Happily when I got down to it, it really just needed a tidying up and sorting of papers (well, sorting and some recycling). Now was that so bad? And just ya don't think I just hid stuff under the curtains...

A place for everything and everything in its place. Oh m'gosh that feels so good! Just LOOK at it!

So it's a baby step but definately a good start. I might not be too bad at this house keepin stuff...right?
